Falling into a good flow can be hard when the wind is howling and the temperature is dropping into the single digits, but Black Diamond’s Zone Women’s Pant will help you stay warm, dry, and focused on what you’re doing. It features a two-later Gore-Tex membrane and fully taped seams like most serious backcountry setups, but Black Diamond also decked it out with PrimaLoft Silver synthetic insulation, so it’s not just a light baselayer and a shell protecting your legs from frigid winter weather. In another backcountry-friendly touch, Black Diamond hooked the Zone up with its patented Pieps Pocket beacon thigh stash, which uses Poron XRD foam and an internal harness for safe and secure beacon storage, so you can leave the cumbersome chest harness at home. The Zone has another expandable pocket on the opposite thigh, an integrated and removable belt at the waist, and articulated knees to let you cover ground and shred comfortably. At the ankles, Keprotec patches prevent edges and crampons from shredding your pants, and ankle zips provide easy access to your boot buckles. There’s also an elastic boot gaiter to seal out snow, and an integrated RECCO reflector to provide some rescue backup in an in-bounds slide.
