Black Diamond’s made its name designing technical gear and outerwear, so it shouldn’t be surprising that its top-of-the-line Front Point Men’s Bib Pant is a bomber hardshell pant with a design that’s as on-point as they come. The Front Point’s name suggests ice climbing–and it’s plenty down for some of that–but it’s also been designed to handle backcountry skiing, alpine climbing, and mountaineering without batting an eyelash. “Handle” might be the wrong word–the Front Point was designed to excel, with a rugged 70D nylon shell that’s been treated with a DWR finish and laminated to a three-layer Gore-Tex Pro waterproof and breathable membrane to keep you bone dry during all your alpine adventures. The Front Point has articulated knees for easy high stepping and kick turning, with stretchy and adjustable suspenders and an integrated low-profile belt to keep your pants where they belong without rubbing under pack straps. In an ingenious piece of design, Black Diamond extended the full-length side zips all the way up and around the back of the waist, essentially giving the Front Point a drop seat that’ll come in handy when it’s 7:30am, you’re on the skin track, and that trailhead coffee kicks in. The side zips also keep you well-ventilated, while the drawcord cuffs and internal gaiters keep snow and debris from getting in your boots. Because this still wasn’t enough, Black Diamond also built in a Recco reflector, giving you some avalanche backup in case of emergencies.
