The test team was a bit disappointed by the Patagonia Alpine Houdini Rain jacket, especially if you compare it to the lightweight rain jackets that are the same price. Weighing 7.1 ounces(200 grams) for a size large, Patagonia’s lightweight rain jacket is the second lightest jacket tested, but in order to achieve that light weight they cut some corners that other jackets didn’t have to cut. The Alpine Houdini was the only jacket tested that does not appear to use a water resistant zippper. Every other jacket used YKK AquaGuard® coil zippers, and the Mountain Hardwear Super Light Plasmic jacket used a superior YKK AquaGuard® VISLON® molded zipper.
The Patagonia Alpine Houdini was also the only rain jacket tested that did not have any external pockets. It does have one internal pocket.
