Premium Performance AwardThe Mountain Hardwear Superlight Plasmic was given the Premium Performance Award from the team at ProLite Gear because it stood a notch above the rest of the Best Lightweight Rain Jackets that we reviewed. The Dry.Q EVAP fabric(which re-branded eVENT DVL) was the only fabric that had any air permeability as measured on our test device. Mountain Hardwear Superlight Plasmic jacket was also the only jacket to use a YKK AquaGuard® VISLON® zipper(size 5), which is a superior zipper in terms of performance and durability. Weighing 7.9 ounces(225 grams) for a size Large, The Mountain Hardwear Superlight Plasmic jacket was not the lightest jacket in the review, but it did not sacrifice features like the jackets that were lighter weight. Our testers felt that for the weight, the Mountain Hardwear Superlight Plasmic jacket had the features they wanted on a lightweight rain jacket.

Mountain Hardwear Dry.Q EVAP Air Permeability
The Mountain Hardwear Dry.Q EVAP fabric was the most Air Permeable of the jackets tested. In this image the air permeability of the Dry.Q fabric is being tested against the Pertex Shield + fabric used in the Outdoor Research Helium II jacket.

AquaGuard® VISLON® Zipper
The Mountain Hardwear Super Light Plasmic jacket was the only lightweight rain jacket to use a YKK AquaGuard® VISLON® zipper(size 5). All the other jackets used coil zippers, which do not function as well, and are not as durable as the AquaGuard® VISLON® zippers.

Adjustable Cuffs
The Mountain Hardwear Super Light Plasmic jacket uses velcro adjustable cuffs, a feature that a few of the other jackets cut out to eliminate weight.

Dry.Q EVAP Fabric
The Mountain Hardwear Super Light Plasmic jacket Dry.Q EVAP 2.5 layer fabric uses a geometric print on the interior of the jacket to help protect the membrane. Dry.Q EVAP is re-branded eVENT DVL(Direct Venting Light).
