When choosing a clothing system first understand your expected conditions and temperatures. The best clothing systems are simple and use fewer items of clothing layered together for maximum performance. Select clothing that can be worn at the same time for maximum warmth if needed. Choose a system that can keep you comfortable in high heat, cold, wind, rain and/or snow. A great example would be a merino wool baselayer, a wind shell or softshell, a waterproof hard shell and a insulating jacket. For the legs a pair of shorts, base layer leggings, and wind pants might be all that is required.
