I don't own this stove, but I do own the original firefly and the current dragonfly. BOTH STILL WORKING PROPERLY ONE OF WHICH IS ALMOST 30 yrs old.
This is designed for mountaineering / base camp. The adjustment is only fuel delivery and not for simmering.
Buy this if you are using other than titanium cookware, cookware coated with non stick products, or are out in ultra cold weather.
If you use titanium - which is a poor heat distribution metal, expect burn out of the cookware and the contents therein.
The only adjustments you can perform are less pressure in the fuel bottle, and the closure of the valve that delivers fuel.
This means less BTUs over time, and a longer preperation time, which equates to more fuel burned less efficiently.
This type of stove is extremely loud. If you are used to liquified gases either regular blends, or hybrid / exotic blends, you're not goling to like this stove at first.
You will like the results as far as cooking, if using the proper pots.
When you view the stove, you will see that the bottom legs are spread out for stability, and elevate the stove off the surface.
No puddles of water will occur in Winter Climes, and the stove won't sink into the ground.
This is expedition preferred
by specialists. A great and reliable product. Value laden, rough and tough and a lifetime friend.
That's been my experience with the MSR brand of stoves. And I need to say I must own at least twenty different types of stoves currently.
The EX model makes the pot stand mounted on the upper portion valuable resource.
Stability is increased and for larger pots. What more can you ask and at a great price point.
