Meridian Pack Style

A Meridian style pack body has it all; a top loader with a floating lid/fanny pack and a single vertical zipper front access panel that allows for quick access to items at the bottom of your pack. The original concept of this pack was to make it last for Trauma’s 10,000 mile trek, so it is bombproof. We utilized the newly released RiRi water-resistant tooth zippers because they offer superior durability and water resistance to any other zipper we’ve seen. Reflective material on the daisy chains and on the shoulder straps ensured that Trauma was seen when road hiking at night.

What torso length should I get?

To find your torso length, measure the distance between your seventh cervical vertebra and the shelf of your hipbones. Do this by standing up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Tilt your head forward and place your hands on your hips, thumbs to the back. With a flexible tape, have someone measure from the most prominent vertebra at the base of your neck to an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This will be your torso length.

What size hipbelt?

Our Vapor Belt is standard equipment on all of our packs with the Vapor Suspension. This belt is a “soft” belt. It has no plastic exoskeleton like our other belts. It is lighter and more comfortable when carrying smaller loads of 40 pounds or less. Although it is our simplest interchangeable belt, it still boasts hip stabilizers, dual density foam and a stretch woven fabric. ( Not Available in XL Size)

What size shoulder strap?

All vapor suspension packs have fixed shoulder straps that cannot be swapped out for other sizes.

"This was hands-down the most comfortable model with loads of 30 pounds or less," one tester raved.... the Meridian was the champ among sereval sub-3-pound weekenders we tested. Part of the credit goes to the impressive fit. Though the pack is not adjustable, its sizing (4 torso lengths and 3 hipbelt sizes) allowed each tester to achieve a good torso fit, along with a clean wrap around shoulders and hips. The rest of the credit goes to the hipbelt and back padding, which are surprisingly plush for a pack this light, and the flexible yet supportive framesheet.

Stability is also a strong suit. After scrambling off-trail over snow-covered talus in Idaho's Seven Devils Mountains, another tester reported: "I found the pack's steadiness was excellent-even when I post-holed to my hips or pitched forward when the snow crust collapsed." That lack of motion is due to abundant compression straps that prevent the load from shifting around during acrobatic maneuvers.

The Meridian's hybrid design-a gaping top opening and a long front zipper-allows easy access into the main compartment. A roomy lid and stretchy side pockets house quick-grab items like snacks and gloves. our only caveat: Unless you're going ultralight, this pack's tightly contoured dimensions make shoehorning 3 days of food and gear inside tough.
