Description

For mixed climbing at the highest level. The modular front allows the monopoint to be centered or offset, adjusted in length, or converted to dual points. A small inner spike on the heel is useful for hooking the backside of ice columns. The optional heel spur is used for inverted aerial maneuvers on extreme mixed routes. For competitions, remove the linking bars and bolt these bad boys directly to your boots. By keeping the heel and toe bails attached, the C Comps can be attached to boots with just one bolt for each piece so you can hammer out the approach in the same boots you will use for climbing (a distinct advantage over traditional fruit boots).

Application notes regarding Cassin C-Comp Crampons

Staff Comments:
The C-comp performed very well. I was leery at first because I haven't used the mono points. They performed very well on vertical ice and on chandelier ice. I have not used them on mixed route yet. I was surprised at how light they were. I also own the Black Diamond Cyborgs. The Cyborgs now seem a lot heavier and awkward to walk around in. The only downfall I see to the C-Comps is that they are not to quick adjust. But that allows for a lot less clicking in the crampon when you're kicking them into the ice.

Cassin C-Comp Crampons

rated 5 of 5 stars
The Cassin C Comp crampons are durable, and even though the name implies it is for comp routes the reality is it is just as good for steep climbing on ice or rock. The hard steel makes the crampon very rigid which is important in saving energy and providing stability. The secondary points rake very well, meaning on featured ice it is easier to get a resting position and on mixed routes you can keep your feet on the rock longer. Also they are light due to the smaller rear plate which on steep ice and rock you use infrequently, except for standing on cauliflower and the points provided do that adequately. The replaceable front point means the crampons have a longer life, however you will have to do a lot of kicking into rock to need to change them often. For me, the C Comps are a sweet choice as I often climb in RMNP which requires very long approaches and the weight and space savings in my pack are noticeable. **Fabrizio Zangrilli is a CAMP sponsored athlete who tests the gear over hundreds of miles of technical climbing each year, then provides feedback for improvements or endorsements. This is one of many pieces of CAMP gear that have passed his test. Learn more about Fabrizio by visiting the athletes section at CAMP-USA.com
