Mammut Smart Alpine Belay Device

The Mammut Smart Alpine uses passive auto-assist engineering to provide an extra level of safety to every belay and descent. I find this device to be extremely easy to use and comfortable on long belays with beginners or multipitch routes. It helps make rappels more controlled, increasing safety and freeing you to inspect the terrain or manage rope/gear more easily. Lowering your partner is simple, but may take some getting used to if you are well practiced with other devices – Be sure to read the manual completely to understand all modes of use before using in the field. After just a few trials on the cliffs, the Smart Alpine quickly became my go-to belay device.
